Some of you may know the story of The Christian Teachers Academy, and some of you may not. Over a decade ago, The Academy, as we informally called it, started with the vision of helping teachers to discover, plan, and implement Project Based Learning. PBL came at a time when many Christian Schools in Ontario recognized a need and hope for more active and engaging learning opportunities for our students. The Academy was formed as a "boot camp" type of immersive experience that used PBL to train teachers and school leaders in PBL.
As a group of educators at Hamilton District Christian High, partnering with the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools, Edfide, and the Ontario Christian School Administrators Association, we developed not only an entrance but also an exit for The Academy.
The Academy has accomplished its mission of helping to foster expectional learning in Christian schools. We have been committed to maintain and operate The Academy while there was a need to help schools and teachers pursue Deeper Learning opportunities. Presently instruction in Christian education continues to flourish with excellent leadership in many of our partner organizations, and now there are many models of Deeper Learning being used in Christian Schools. At this time The Academy will be closing.
We are excited about the growth and momentum of Edvance's work with Teaching for Transformation (more information on future Teaching for Transformation Odysseys will be posted as it becomes available - tentatively the week of August 21-25.)
If you have ever joined The Academy for a summer Odyssey, an online Odyssey, a workshop, or a chat, we thank all of you for the trust in our work, the hospitality that we shared, the friendships that were formed, and the Beautiful Work that you shared with us. All of the resources from The Academy will be reorganized and made available for your future use.
To the many coaches and leaders that helped to create exceptional learning experiences, thank you for your gifts and especially your leadership - you have helped to shape the landscape of Christian Education.
On behalf of the Board of The Christian Teachers Academy,
Harry C. Blyleven
